How Do All-on-4 Implants Work?
All-on-4 has much in common with traditional dental implant placement. It involves surgically inserting the implant posts into the jaw so that they can support a lifelike dental prosthesis – in this case, a full denture. However, All-on-4 stands out because it uses four implant posts that have been carefully placed so that they can take advantage of the parts of the jaw where the bone is thickest. This can make All-on-4 a good choice even for patients with lower jawbone density.
Am I a Candidate for All-on-4 Implants?
A consultation will be needed to make sure that you’re a good candidate for the All-on-4 procedure. Since All-on-4 doesn’t require as much jawbone density, it can often be carried out without the need for bone grafting. That said, our team will still need to confirm that your mouth is in good health; in particular, we’ll have to check for signs of problems with your gums, as gum disease is a leading cause of dental implant failure.
It should be noted that the long-term success of dental implants depends on the care you give them. Thus, if you plan on getting All-on-4, you will need to be able to make a lifelong commitment to practicing good oral hygiene.
Benefits of All-on-4 Implants
Getting All-on-4 means you will be able to enjoy the following benefits:
- You’ll have a new smile that feels comfortable in your mouth and has a highly natural appearance that you can show off without reservation.
- You will be able to eat all of your favorite foods again with the chewing power that dental implants provide.
- You won’t have to worry about bone loss in your jaw thanks to the stimulation of the implant posts.
- You will be able to easily clean your new teeth by brushing and flossing them.
All-On-4 vs. Traditional Implants
With traditional dental implant techniques, it can sometimes take as many as 8 dental implants to replace an entire row of teeth. All-on-4 only requires 4 posts, meaning less surgery to worry about. Furthermore, because All-on-4 can make bone grafting unnecessary, it can potentially shave months off your treatment plan. Finally, with traditional dental implants, you will typically need to wait to get new teeth; meanwhile, All-on-4 often makes it possible to place a denture on the same day as the surgery.
